About Us

Generations United is a nonprofit that strengthens practices and policies to benefit all generations.

With support from the Michigan Health Endowment Fund, Generations United has created a set of intergenerational partnerships and programs across Michigan. This initial work was focused, in large part, on better understanding and addressing the challenges of social isolation in both older and younger populations, a critical issue before – and especially during – these pandemic times.

Generations United is committed to working with community leaders, organizations, and institutions to create more intergenerational planning, partnership, and program opportunities across the state and advance public policies and funding support to expand, connect and sustain this work long-term.

Goals of this Website

  • To demonstrate how intergenerational programs, policies, and practices can improve the lives of children, youth, older adults, and communities.

  • To provide information, data, and tools to plan, implement and sustain intergenerational partnerships, programs, and policies at the state, regional and local levels.

  • To inform, engage, and influence the public, private, nonprofit, and philanthropic sectors to advocate for innovative solutions that address challenges impacting all generations.

  • To build on the best of intergenerational ideas, efforts, and enthusiasm that exist in Michigan and help improve, expand and connect intergenerational initiatives across the state.

Generations United’s mission is to improve the lives of children, youth, and older people through intergenerational collaboration, public policies, and programs for the enduring benefit of all.

“Somehow, we have to get older people back close to growing children if we are to restore a sense of community, acquire knowledge of the past, and provide a sense of the future.”

— Margaret Mead
